3D model keep reloading on iPAD and iPhone: Msg. "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded"

(Cinecopter) #1

I have problem on viewing 3D model on iPad Air 2 and Iphone (7+). It keep reloading and msg pop saying "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded"

Apple iPad Air 2 (128GB) MH2P2LL - Version 10.3.2
Apple iPhone (7+, 256GB) Version 10.3.1

It's playing fine on window desktop.

Any suggestion on 3D setting or separate mobile link for lower resolution 3D modeling which can use lower RAM for the iPad and iPhone (mobile devices)! Not sure if its RAM usage issue or Apple issue?

Thanks for your help in Advance!

3.9 million faces + 16 large texures is quite a lot. Most mobile devices will not be able to load this model. In the future we hope to offer "Levels of Detail" and serve a smaller version to less powerful devices, but it's not on the short-term roadmap.

For now, you can find some performance tips here: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/201766675-Viewer-Performance

I can confirm the issue mentioned by Cinecopter.
This happens also on my iPad with very lowpoly scenes with few/small textures.

Hmm. What model iPad and what version of iOS?

I am also experiencing this issue, with 1m faces and 441k vertices... so not an especially large model but it keeps reloading on iphone and ipad, fine on desktop... any fix yet please?

@droneyour Can you post the model link? Is it doing this on the regular model page or just when embedded elsewhere? Or just when going to full screen?

Here it is James, its doing it on a regular model and when I embed it using the 'share' tool on sketchfab.

While that model is pretty heavy, I expect it to work on mobile. In fact, it does work on my iPhone 6. We're still digging.

It helps when you empty the iPad's work memory. You do this by holding the screenlock button as you would when shutting down. When asked to shutdown or not, hold down the homebutton. After a few seconds, when you return to your normal UI, the memory is cleared. Now try loading the model again. This works with the models who are on the edge of being to difficult for your iDevice. So it works with some.

Good luck!!!

It might be good to know the URL of the page where you're embedding it. If that page is already heavy, a Sketchfab embed of a big model might become 'too much'?

Ah that's really good to know. Closing other apps / browser tabs and clearing the memory could help.

Thanks @DiscountSafari, I cleared the memory as per your instructions and it worked on one model but not on another... @james any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am having this issue with an IPad Pro, IPad Air 2, Samsung Galaxy Tablet (2015), etc. It seems to be the GPU the models were brought down in quality but eventually the message will continue to populate "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded." Laptop and Desktops load fine but I cannot pin point the fix is a GPU or a higher quality WiFi/RJ45 connection being the fix.

Any advice would be a life saver the project is due in a couple days but I already informed my professor of the problem and could not resolve the issue.

Keep in mind that mobile devices have less powerful GPUs (if any) than desktop computers. How heavy are your models? Can you share the links here please?

There are quite a few under the clients account we have been using Bart. The 3D artist has been lower the quality 2K or under.

It works for about for a few minutes and than the application wants to reload giving that error message on mobile. The original proposal for the class was to build a touch table interactive to view fossils on. Than I was asked for to see if I could make it mobile. It should load on a phone mine is a iPhone 6 which it does but will eventually give that error. The media query is sloppy because I need to remove some pseudo code that is preventing some graphic placement etc. Attempting to lower the quality to see if this help prevent the error.

Best to be shown on a desktop or laptop with a display with a true 1080p resolution for the reason you stated a GPU helps out the issue and I believe the better quality parts for WiFi and Ethernet jack, memory, etc. improve the application.

It doesn't seem related to the model performance. That page is continuously throwing 1000s of console errors and it's probably overwhelming the mobile browsers and causing them to crash.

Thank you James for helping me on this issue. I have an idea for future development on how to resolve this issue. I appreciate your help on this matter.
