[ENDED] Sketchfab April Challenge: 3D-ify This in Your Style

Are we allowed to also alter the form? For example, depict Odin as robot (but still retain the same color scheme, silhouette, etc.)? Just want to make clear, since in one of the comment in the main thread it’s said to ‘stay as close to the original concept’ which could mean there’s only little room for improvisation (cmiiw).

Hey, guys! I guess it’s my second challenge on Sketchfab. Hope you’ll like my entry. I went a little overboard with my interpretation. Oh well, at least my Odin still has horns and bird poop splatters, so I guess can get away with the rest nonsense I did =P. Really enjoying all other entries so far.

The entries so far have all been fantastic. Great work everyone!

Here’s mine – I challenged myself to keep it relatively low poly without sacrificing too much detail.

Hope y’all like it.

Poll seems to be missing some entries.

Those were some great interpretations of François Bourdin’s original artwork! Well done, everyone. Here are the two winners, one chosen by the community and one by François.

Winner chosen by the community: Digital Clay Odin by @zeyadibrahim000

Winner chosen by François Bourdin: Odin for 3D-ify Challenge April by @MaxDeaconVR

Keep up the great work! :art:

Congratilation @zeyadibrahim000 . There was really fun cheating voices with you. Unfortunately at the end of the voting all new registered people from Ukraine couldn’t sign in to the forum… So it was a little bit easy to you win this one
Enjoy your win! Good luck in the future)

BTW “thanks” @nebulousflynn for blocking account my girlfriend. Its very profesional move as admin and as you said "is not cool." doing something when you dont know exactly what was happend.

Congratulations for teh winners!! :muscle: :muscle:

Congratulations!

All I can say is that I am very disappointed. Creating fake, empty accounts just to vote for your own work is blow below the waist… and on top of that I’m very surprised that nobody really cared. Even after @svyART said that “There was really fun cheating voices…”. That is just sad.

I checked all the voters, and after removing all votes from empty accounts (ones created after the voting started) winning work had only 3 “fair” votes. Both @sebastianJSRC and @CallumHarwood3D had 5 “fair” votes so in my opinion the winner should be picked from those two.

Congratulations to @MaxDeaconVR, the only proper winner so far.

This is funny))) Cuz my friends was start add accounts after @CallumHarwood3D was start add his))) Also @sebastianJSRC has couple new accounts)) So i dont know why you so disappointed. Your entry good, but the rules don`t have any words about new accounts. Also this is a little bit promotion for sketchfab. So all this actions was right.

Hmm, I remember this being an issue in the cute robots challenge a while ago, where the entries with far more likes getting very little votes and less popular entries receiving a lot of votes from accounts created just for voting. It is a shame as I think this really isn’t in the spirit of what the contests are meant to be, perhaps it is worth changing up a bit how community voted challenges are done? If there aren’t any rules about this then I can see why people may ask there friends to vote for them, but I don’t think it is meant to be a popularity contest. Maybe a vote button next to the like button, as a lot more people like models rather than vote in the polls and it seems to generally be a better indicator. Or maybe just that you can vote after 2 weeks of being on Sketchfab?

I think the entries that won were still good by the way! Not trying to downplay the work at all, just seems like there could be a fairer way to determine winners in community challenges than who creates the most new accounts

Hello Everybody. Congratulations to the winners, really awesome work! and thanks again to François Bourdin for the amazing original piece.

Great work by everybody.

As I have been tagged a couple of times I would like to address the comments in this thread and the previous post by Sketchfab staff members.

I personally did not create multiple or fake accounts or spam or message anybody in the community with messages asking to vote , however I did share my design on my professional social media account as I do with any of my work.

I also shared the competition when it started with classmates on my postgraduate course in 3D animation and encouraged them to enter and continue to be motivated and creative while our university is closed due to the current crisis.

I shared my design with them after I had finished , as we often do to motivate and encourage each other. Some already had Sketchfab accounts and others have recently created new accounts, which I am sure they will use in the future, whether this is to post their own artwork or look at others. I am sure that some of them would have voted for me as well.

I apologize that this has contributed to a negative atmosphere with accusations of cheating and vote manipulation. I often share my work with as many people as possible (as this is one way I promote myself and network for my work) but this was never my intention.

While I may not post on this site as much as others, I really love sketchfab and I am always recommending it as a great community and source of inspiration and technical reference for my professional friends/connections and fellow students.

Hi everyone -

Thanks for your comments regarding community voting - we’ll take all your feedback into consideration for future challenges.

As we do not intend to update or change the winners in this particular challenge, I am closing this topic to new replies.

For context, we began running community votes on the forum, in part, after some criticism regarding winners exclusively chosen by the Sketchfab team. We opted for a voting poll over a simple ‘like’ count as longtime Sketchfab members (generally) have an unfair advantage given larger followings on the platform.

Our goal with these challenges is always to encourage creativity and a spirit of healthy artistic competition - we will do our best to maintain this aspiration, thanks to everyone who entered!
