Fade to Alpha Ground: How to help needed!

(JERSIED) #1

I’m trying to imitate how the ground found in this model here fades into the distance: https://sketchfab.com/models/5ec083b9eb654d27a2b041eceecedcec

On my model here: https://sketchfab.com/models/4acfa6bc5e944e29af2ef637e1a94bf1/edit

I’ve had no luck following the details of transparency/opacity found here: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/202602073-Transparency-Opacity

I’ve built a .png for the ice in photoshop that has the desired facing effect, however, when imported into the scene it is a solid ice surface.

Would someone be able to spend a few minutes walking me through the steps I’d need to take to achieve this effect on my model? THANKS!

If you open up the inspector of the example model you linked and click on Wireframe, you’ll see that the ground is actually a square plain and not a circular one like yours. It’s not a big thing but you will get a better result by swapping to a square shape.

More importantly, If you then click on Opacity, you’ll see the circular gradient texture that is being used to create the soft fading of the floor. This is the important part of the effect. You can create this as part of the alpha channel in a .png file, or simply as a separate image which you connect to the Opacity property of your floor plane. There’s no need to do any fading or anything in the main Diffuse for your plain, it’s all done by this alpha map
