Fog in sketchfab

This post is about for in sketchfab.
Yesterday I started to investigate what would be the best approach to achieve the most realistic effect of fog that would still be able to run on mobile devices.
In till now there's there options
- an array of planes with a low opacity material applied
- baked particles

Does anyone have experience with fog? Tips are welcome!


I'm no expert, but I've seen both approaches done successfully on Sketchfab. An array of transparent planes is probably going to be more performant that a bunch of particles, depending on how many points you need.

here’s a clever hack example I found using overlayed transparent sphere. it interpenetrates the mountains in places and you can see the boundaries of the spheres as the fog gets dense. but still cool.

would love to see proper per material vertical and depth gradients. i.e.


Switching it to Dithered blending gives kind of a cool effect :see_no_evil:
