Masking Animated Objects

Anyone know how I might achieve this awesome “Quill” object masking style?](Bicycle animation VR - 3D model by aug.illustration (@aug.illustration) - Sketchfab)
Have tried boolean masks and alpha masks without success. Any help appreciated.


We just added support for Quill animations, but I think it’s just an FBX file, so there is probably a feature of FBX like visibility that does this. @waleguene ?

Hi @farago

I guess there is nothing special to do, you only need to use the Quill frame-by-frame animation tool to generate your animation, and the Quill will take care of exporting the corresponding data in FBX.

What I am asking is how I might make use of this clever “Object Masking” technique in my traditional 3D software pipeline. I am unable to download the file and see what’s going on. Perhaps you guys can grab a peek and share what you learn.

It is a super valuable technique and would love to use it to create animated surfaces for a large group of USDZ assets currently in production for our iOS AR application.

Looking at this Quill video at 2:00 it seems that object/animation opacity is painted on with an alpha matt. Interesting
