Morph Target difference in FBX and Sketchfab

(Simon Kratz) #1

Hi there,

I just wanted to try out morph targets with an animated fire mesh. But sadly in Sketchfab it looks quite a bit different from my exported fbx. Not sure what the problem is but my morph target spacing is pretty dense and it looks like they are morphing kind of additively.

I didn't publish the model, yet due to the different look. But I'm sure the support can see it anyway if you want to check it out

Any idea what the weird behaviour might be?

Is this from Blender?

No, it's originally from 3ds max. I wanted to try a Blender file but it wouldn't let me import the animation properly

Yeah we don't support .blend animations natively (yet).

Could you PM or email me the .max file?

I just messaged you the file, hope it helps to find out the cause
Thanks in advance, James!

Any news on the issue?^^
Don't wanna be annoying but got the rest of the model pretty much done and I'd love to publish the whole thing including the fire
Maybe I can try using blend shapes created in Blender in the meantime. Did anyone make good experience with those in Sketchfab?

Hey, really sorry for the delay

@waleguene is looking for me.

Hi @essimoon,

Thanks for sharing the .max, it has been really helpful!
The issue is definitely on our side. With our baking, we loose the last frame and it can have huge consequences in some case, like the one of your model where morph values are reverted to 0 during the last keyframe.
On Sketchfab, values don't come back to 0 so almost all your targets are affecting the geometry at the end of the animation.

The issue is logged, we will need to fix this as soon as possible.
Thanks for this report!

Oh, I see :open_mouth:
Well, that makes sense for this file, thanks for finding out the cause
Maybe I can workaround it in the meantime.

Hey @essimoon,

Just to tell you that a fix is on its way
I keep you in touch, it should be live next week!

(Simon Kratz) #11

hey pretty cool, thanks
Gonna update the model as soon as it's live.

Hey @essimoon,
The fix is live so it should work now
