Rendering a Moebius strip

(Dimitry Demin) #1

about the non-orientable surfaces like a moebius strip, is the any way to avoid black colored areas in the rendering where the vectors are 180 degree?

Using Sketchfab for Architecture Projects
(Bart) #2

I've moved your question to the Support forum as it wasn't strictly architecture related; I'll ask the support team to look in to this for you.

ping @cedric any idea?

@dimitry_demin

It might just be an issue of the file format. Can you try something else instead of .3ds ?

@james
I just sent you an email with the 3ds and rhino files

Ok, so the issue is with normals / smoothing, and the result depends on the format.

Some test results:

DAE: minor improvement

OBJ: minor improvement

PLY (with normals):

PLY (without normals):

STL (no normals):

OBJ (no normals)

If you upload a file without normals, we will recompute them. However, note the OBJ with no normals - our OBJ processing plugin uses its own smoother, so it doesn't work as nicely as the STL and PLY.
