This contest is quite interesting, it's nice to see use of point cloud.
For those who want to participate but are not very comfortable with the process or are a bit worry about free software, here are some example of fast-scanning:
These have been made using 10s video taken on a P9-lite (not the best phone camera you can find but still ok). I just circle the phone over the flower, extract frame and process in VisualSFM, it's fast and free.
You can use the sequential mode of visualSFM, therefore it take no time to match pictures.
It's 10s for the acquisition, 20s for the matching and 4-5m for the dense reconstruction.
I didn't even look at the screen while taking the video as I cannot really step onto flowers!
These models are not clean up as I'm interested in the raw output. But I believe if you do a better acquisition than I did + clean the model you could reach a very nice result.
