Still necessary to set Camera FOV to 120 deg for VR?

I can't find it now, but I thought one of the older VR blog posts (before all the new features were launched) said you had to set the camera field of view to 120 deg in the 3D settings editor in order for a model to work in VR. Does the "Camera Field of View" on the "Scene" settings tab have any effect on how the model appears in VR, or is that now completely overridden by the new "Webvr" settings tab?
