Triangles in meshes!

blender

(Hatty) #1

I know you're not suppoooosed to use them but,

I'm practicing characters so I'm looking at how others do them on here, I see lots of triangles on character models.
I'd like to figure out how people do triangles (i'm using blender :sunny: )

My characters always come out so square! I'm really trying to branch away from the squareness haha.
If anyone has any tips I'd love to hear/see them!

I don't think there's anything wrong with using triangles.

Maybe this will help?

Everything is tesselated into tris when you render scenes anyhow

I think if your characters are square, it's not because of triangles, but more because of the flow of your models. Try thinking in terms of 'strips': draw your shapes with quad strips and you will see it will follow organic shapes much more smoothly. See the picture in this link:

Don't hesitate to post WIPs on the forum for more detailed feedback!

modeling is usually way simpler in quads, you have clean edgeloops that really help to bevel and smooth things.

Tris are mostly done in the end for game engines.

id keep working with quads, as it is the simplest workflow and you can always just change it to tris
tris to quads mostly doesn't work perfect and you have to fix some issues.
