.txt file to 3D model?

Hey,
I need help with the weirdest thing because I have this .txt file with X Y Z data and I wish to create a point cloud out of it. Though I have no idea how to do it, translate it to 3D space, and so on. The data was gathered with the total station (this camera-like thing that can be seen on construction sites) and stored in a .txt file of all things. Do you have any idea how to approach it?

It sounds like all you may need to to is rename the file to .xyz and re-upload it.

Here’s an example of a .xyz file without vertex colors:

#  Corners of a tetrahedron
0.0  0.0  0.0
1.0  0.0  0.0
0.0  1.0  0.0
0.0  0.0  1.0

You can also try CloudCompare which can open txt files. When you open the file it will ask you to define which columns are the X Y Z data and to skip the first header lines.

Once in CloudCompare, delete any outlying points (there are several apparently in the sky) and generate normals for the point cloud. You can then use Poisson meshing to create a mesh.
