What kind of challenges would you like to see?

The Sketchfab community team launches new challenges every Monday. We believe they are important for artists as they give them an opportunity to work on their skills in a fun context. They also to add a bit of ‘light’ competition to the community - these challenges run only for two weeks and their goals are always modest so they’re achievable in that timeframe.

Prizes usually include 3 months of Sketchfab PRO and a $100 Amazon voucher (or similar). Sometimes we talk to sponsors who can add a little ‘extra’ as a reward.

You’ll find the full archive of all our past challenges here.

We’re currently running challenges for the following categories:

  • Sculpting
  • Texturing/hand painting
  • 3D Scanning
  • Low Poly modeling
  • Free form (‘anything goes’)

In the past, we’ve also experimented some other subjects, like:

  • Voxels
  • Simulations (like fluids)
  • Mashups
  • VR

We discontinued these as they saw very low participation.

Going forward, we want to design a few new challenge categories and we’d love to get your input. What kind of artwork makes your blood pump faster? And which modeling or other 3D creation techniques would you like to use?

Leave your suggestion below and you can win a month of Sketchfab PRO! We’re giving away 3x 1 month of Sketchfab PRO to 3 randomly selected people who reply to this topic.

Thanks!

Even though I don’t participate much I enjoy seeing various challenges and entries.

  • Everyday Objects
Anything that we use daily can be subject. Simple enough that beginners can participate.
  • City Landmarks
Could be interesting to see landmarks of a different city each week and its interpretations (not 3D scan). It might be a motivation to participate when you see your city in the challenge (A cool way of exploring different cities as well  ). City/landmark related rewards might be nice too.
